Strong roots, strong women – Strengthening capacity of women in Eco-system-based Adaptation (EbA) for sustainable economic development in the Huong River basin

Title of the action: Strong roots, strong women – Strengthening capacity of women in Eco-system-based Adaptation (EbA) for sustainable economic development in the Huong River basin
Time: From January 2025 to December 2028
Location: Hue City
Long-term beneficiaries: Many communities in the project region will benefit from the restored wetland ecosystem and improved green livelihood opportunities. This will positively affect the people already directly relying on the lagoon for their livelihoods (~100,000) or indirectly for the ecosystem services provided (~200,000). Additionally, we will serve communities alongside the river basin.
These works included:
– The establishment of a community-run mangrove nursery at Tam Giang lagoon, which produces around 15,000 to 20,000 seedlings annually. These are sold or planted locally on the coast of the lagoon to increase ecological and societal resilience.
– Eco-DRR theatre performances by members of the local Women’s Union for awareness raising and capacity building.
– Organization of a contest and support of local EbA-related livelihood activities.
– In-depth project outcome evaluation, such as an evaluation of the potential of EbA to support the most vulnerable, local support of the mangrove nursery, and the effectiveness of lay-women theatre as a risk communication tool.
– Considerable dissemination activities, including a contribution to the Resilience Hub, a virtual platform at the COP26, films, a story map of the project, and substantial coverage in local media.
